Rope of Hope is a community support initiative that brings Christians together by recognizing each person’s individual journey and the value derived from their experiences. We are all scarred in our own ways—torn and tattered by sin, poor choices, health struggles, addiction, mental illness, loss, and trauma. The list goes on. No two people walk the same path, and we often hide our pain to fit into social norms.

Society teaches us to compare and measure our worth against standards that were never meant for us. Rope of Hope invites each person to anonymously share their personal stories of recovery; not only to be seen and heard, and to know they are not alone, but to recognize that they have purpose. Each piece, each story, helps hold our rope of faith together.

We are all God’s people! The Lord does not treasure gold, silver, or jewels. He treasures us, His rags. Each of us is shaped through struggle and strengthened through our ability to overcome. By His grace, we are made clean, yet our stains remind us of where we’ve been and who we’ve become.

We have a purpose. We are rags of restoration. A rag that is used to clean up oil is used again to clean up more oil; in the same way, those who have endured addiction, loss, or pain are often the ones best equipped to help others through those same hardships.

Every rag tells a story. When these stories are bound together, they form a rope. Rope of Hope is a symbol of unity, strength in the Holy Spirit, and the unbreakable love of God. Through this rope, we see God’s valorization for those who are tattered and torn: that even in our brokenness, we are bound in His purpose to hold up one another, and held fast by His love. We also encourage prayer requests to strengthen our community support and deepen our faith-based initiative.

Contribute

All we want are rags, yours in particular, to support our community through this faith-based initiative. Find any old cloth that is stained, frayed, or on its way 'out.' Instead of tossing it, grab a marker or any permanent ink or paint. Write down your personal stories of recovery or prayer requests. There's no need to include your name; we will pray for you regardless and add your rag to our Rope of Hope, symbolizing strength in the Holy Spirit.

Detailed instructions and address are below, along with links to our social media channels. Please like and follow to see our progress and show your support.

Instructions

1. Find any rag or cloth and any permanent ink, paint, etc.

2. Make sure the cloth is washed to avoid health hazards during handling and transportation.

3. Write down your personal stories of recovery, your struggles, your testimony, your worries, prayer requests, victories you have had, or whatever is weighing on your heart. This is part of our community support and faith-based initiative to uplift each other.

4. Mail it to:

1679 E Orangethorpe Ave.

P.O. Box 126

Atwood, CA 92811-9997

After we receive it, we will pray for you and add your rag to our rope, drawing strength in the Holy Spirit together.

We appreciate tears and stains as they signify personal stories of recovery, but please ensure your rag is washed to avoid exposing anyone to chemicals or other hazards such as mold, fungi, and viruses.

Our faith-based initiative encourages you to write your struggles in sharpie or other permanent ink, symbolizing the hurdles you have faced or are currently facing. This act reflects the strength in the Holy Spirit and highlights where your true beauty and resilience lie.

Please send your rags to:

Cassandra Kottman, ATTN: ROH, 1679 E Orangethorpe Ave. P.O.Box #126, Atwood, CA, 92811-9997
